新型コロナウィルス対策に貢献するために、Folding@Homeで解析を始めたわけだが、いつの間にかステータスが「Download」で止まっていたりする。
ログを見てみると、こんな出力がある。

09:01:56:ERROR:WU02:FS00:Exception: Failed to connect to 128.252.203.10:80: 接続済みの呼び出し先が一定の時間を過ぎても正しく応答しなかったため、接続できませんでした。または接続済みのホストが応答しなかったため、確立された接続は失敗しました。
同様の状況になっている人は結構いるようで、Folding@Homeのフォーラムを調べてみると以下のような投稿があった。
We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we’re getting from new Donors.
Several servers ran out of WU’s overnight. The issue is being addressed as fast as the project’s owner can get to it. Unfortunately the server(s) may have to be taken off-line while the new WUs are being generated.
By the way we’re now anticipating the possibility of running out of space.
luckily we literally just setup two new 100TB servers
Many of the older server are only 15T
We plan to offload stuff to the cloud as soon as something can be set up but some preliminary analysis will be required before it’s useful to other organizations.
Traditionally, FAH has purchased enough servers to meet the research needs of Grad Students at the various campuses that are part of the Consortium. The whole world is suddenly interested in COVAID-19 and FAH has received unanticipated advertising from several popular websites so suddenly we need 6x of the infrastructure and of the staff. Such rapid growth could not really be anticipated or planned for.
要するに、今回の新型コロナウィルスの解析が始まったことで急激に処理要求が増えワークユニットが尽きてしまったり、サーバの容量が足りなくなったりしているようだ。通常の6倍ものインフラが必要になっているという状況もあるようで、運営する側も苦労している模様。
サーバ側の問題なので、この状態になっても辛抱強く待つしかない。しばらくすればワークユニットがダウンロードされて処理が再開される。
他にも新型コロナウィルスの解析をしているプロジェクトがある
あまり話題には上らないが、Folding＠Home以外にも新型コロナウィルスの解析を始めているプロジェクトがある。例えば、BOINCのRosetta@Home。
自分は、CPUが遊んでいる時間を活用するためにRosetta@Homeも並行して動かすことにした。

Folding@Homeを3月下旬から始めましたが、Attemptsばかり増えてワークがダウンロードされない状況が続いていて「なぜだろう？」と思っていました。
サーバ側のインフラが追いついていない状況なのですね。スタンフォード大学側のインフラ増築を待つしか無いようですね。

3月下旬からやってますワークはガンガン飛んできます。所属しているチームが大きいと割り当てのプロジェクトが大きいのが来るようです。またグラボの装備、特に高性能のグラボだと大きなワークがくるようです。 メガチームの上位になると一日当たり１００万～２００万クレジットを処理しているようです。僕で約１万～2万クレジットです。
